Hi All. The truck lives on! After a long hiatus from moving further south in Queensland, to sitting in a mates shed for two years (being started every few months) to it's current location - I am finally back to working on her. Not much has been done except for a bit of woodwork on the tray. After removing 175 kgs of steel plate and sanding the old flooring - it's starting to take shape again.

I have the doors back from paint shop now and hope to get the nose clip on this week as well as the other door. Any tips on this or just work slowly and line everything up? Cheers

Progress has slowed somewhat but the cab is now mounted back onto the chassis. All the paint work is complete, glass is in up upholstery completed. Coming together now!

G'day folks. It's been awhile since I've posted but life's been busy and progress is continuing - albeit slowly. The engine is now sitting back in the chassis with the front half of the chassis sandblasted and coated with POR15. All of the panels have been sandblasted, primed, worked on, re primed and now ready for top coating with colour in the next month or so. Front springs about to come off and be reset. Happy New Year.

Thanks Ed. Somewhere along the line before I took possession of my truck, these lines were swapped around hence my question. It makes sense to have the pin hole opening going to the gauge so it is now returned that way. Cheers Jase

I have a brass connection block (similar to Young Ed's top single brass connection) - but it has two outlets. One outlet has a pin size hole and the other outlet in the brass connection block has a larger hole. Both take normal size fittings. Will the outlet with the smaller pin size opening be the one that runs up to the gauge? The larger opening runs to the inlet of the oil filter canister? Or should they be the other way around? Cheers

Front bumper bracket needed for 1953 B-4- B pickup
Jason Hyde replied to manfromtarsus's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
My 1949 Dodge Dump truck down here in Oz has a top bracket. Photo one shows the LHS chassis rail with top bracket loosely attached. It is on the same plane as the top of the chassis rail and it connects to the bumper bar on the outside of the rail - far right bolt hole (2nd photo). The winged bracket is for bottom rail attachment (3rd photo). I'm not sure if this was standard or not as it appears the top of my bumper had a flange welded on to it which is where this bracket bolts to. For added strength I'm thinking. The gurus should know.... -
DesotoDav - awesome looking truck! I got to spend a little more time on cleaning up the drivetrain over the last few days. Should be able to mate these two together soon.

Me engine seemed to have a rebuild somewhere in it's earlier life as it was already 0.020". I'm not sure if it did have excessive taper but one cylinder was particular bad, hence the reason to go 0.060".

Hi All, Just a little more progress on the truck. Engine is now back together after total rebuild (pistons - 60 thou o/s, rings, valves, guides, springs, bearings, timing chain, bushes etc) and I'm in the process of slowly getting it all back together before it meets the chassis again. Cheers

G'day Rob, I was going down the road of rebuilding my own original carb off the truck (ETT1 Carter) and was directed to these guys. I found this kit to be the one I wanted - I notice it also fits your model. Some time ago I also picked up another carb (Carter D6H2) for parts. I never ended up using the spare, instead I had my original completely rebuilt by the same guys up in Canada. I can't vouch for their kits but their rebuild work is spot on! If you want the spare for parts, let me know...

:)Here's a few more shots of the engine ready to be stripped down and a shot before and after of what my generator looked like before Don Allen worked his trade.

Hi Guys, here is the progress of my dump truck to date - what do ya think? What started with just getting her running has developed into a full blown strip down and rebuild! My engine has finished being machined and in the process of being rebuilt from the ground up. The cab and all tin panels have now been sandblasted and primed ready for prep before final top coat. The chassis is soon to be finished once I drag her outside and give her one final clean up. I figured the best way to do this was the front half first (chassis, engine, cab and brakes) before I tackle the tray, chassis and rear end. I seem to manage about one day per week to disappear into the shed and play. Any thoughts welcome...

Gday All, I'm hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction for assistance. I'm restoring my 1949 DE4-52 Dodge dump truck down here in Oz. My truck was fitted with a newer alternator but I have the old generator(?) that I'm looking to getting restored and putting back on the truck. Attached is a few photos of it. My question is does anybody know a good auto electrician that they have used to work on these type to bring them back to working order. I'm in LA at the end of Feb and will bring the unit over from Australia and post it off if someone can recommend please. West Coast maybe?? Cheers Jase

Tony, Here are the colour chips I found for what I believe is my era of truck. They came from another post. Cheers Jase

Hi Guys, thanks for all the information. I have the old colour chips and it seems the original colour of my truck is Waterway Blue (10450). It seems the rims were also painted to match the body with this colour. Does anyone have or know how to get the formula to mix this colour? Cheers from downUnder Jase Hyde

G'day All, I'm new to this forum but have just acquired a 1949 Dodge Dump Truck Model DE4-52 to restore. I've attached a couple of photos and hoping someone out there can confirm the window rubbers that I need to get for her. I've searched Steele's catalogue but can't seem to find the part number for the curved rear windows on the side of the cab. Any suggestions please Cheers

Kevin, Thanks for that. On closer inspection the serial number is 93002304. And it is a dump truck (we call them tip trucks in Oz). Cheers
