  1. Thanks to Plaming, Tod, and Merle; I was able to "hammer" the lug nuts loose. Took a little muscle loosening them but their off! All is good. Thanks guys, and have a Merry Christmas. SKIPPER1
  2. need to remove my left front tire for repair of slow leak. I know i go counterclockwise to loosen, and in fact got i lug nut loosened using Liquid Wrench, but I cant budge the other lug nuts. Anything else one can recommed to loosen the lug nuts would be appreciated. SKIPPER1

Replaced wiring (16 guage), from starter to auto. choke (w/ new connectors both ends); replaced plugs (Autolite 86, gap .035) Note: old plugs, the first 2; were black and sooty on tips and threads; the other 4--so-so. Chareged battery 2-3 hrs, primed carb w/ little gas, but cranking no start. Maybe, next step a little forced air though fuel jet connecting carb to gas line. Ok Don C., Greg,, or others, any other suggestions for me?? Again, thanks in advance SKIPPER1
  4. my 49 ply 3- window business coupe w/ original flat head 6 has been idling very fast after a short drive -1 or2 miles. So I adjusted the idling screw 1/4 or so turn counter-clockwise and the engine idling dropped to an exceptable level. Drove it around the block and it ran an idled good. got up next morning started up (but did not drive it),idled smoothly. BUT, next day went out and she would not start! just sputtered and "coughed" but would not start. Read all related threads on forum on this subject- tried priming carb w/gas and later w/ starter fluid but no start. any suggestions please- Thanks SKIPPER1
  5. Had the same problem with my speedometer cable jumpng and "whirring". disconnected cable from back of speedo guage, dropped a few drops of 3 in 1 oil into the cable, reconnected cable back to the guage and "walla" not more problems. SKIPPER1 '49 Ply Bus. Coupe

  7. It's mechanical Don, OEM illumination, which I should not need. Just want to know my engine temp. (for obvious reasons). Just want to mount it in a conspicuous place till I make alternate plans.

While I am desperately searching for an NOS, or other suitable temp. guage for my 49 Ply. 3-window Bus. coupe, I purchased a "cheapy" mechanical Temp. guage at the local NAPA for $17.00, to use as a "backup" Problem is, when I got home I realized this guage is for a 12 volt system. Question is, can I make it work on a 6 volt system? Thanks in advance. SKIPPER1
  9. Could someone provide me with a source for a mechanical temperature guage for my '49 P-17 Plymouth Business Coupe. Tried Hemmings, on-line sources (skeptical of E-bay), and auto parts outlets. My unit is separarted at the bolt into the engine housing the ether component. Don't think I could satisfactorily solder it. Thanks for any suggestions. SKIPPER1

  11. WHERE is the dome light switch located on my '49 Ply. P-15 2-dr. coupe? I have looked around the door frame (both doors), in the door latches, around th doors, Etc. I'm confused. HELP!! SKIPPER1
  12. I think a P.O.C. is a great idea. I would love to see one here in the Denver Metro area, So "Betsy" and I would have a place to go and 'show-off' (my car that is!).   14. When I purchased my '49 P-17 Business Coupe, I noticed the engine temperature guage on the dash did not register when the car was driven. Checked under the hood and found that the linkage from the temp.guage to the engine block was disconnected. My question is: can this connector be soldered onto the engine block (which I assume houses the indicating bulb or sensing device), or will I need to replace the complete connector wire, sensing device,Etc?? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. SKIPPER1
  15. Now that I think of it-- Their was a trailer hitch on the car when i bought it-but has since been removed. Therefore, the "assessory" connection. Will check other issues you brought up Greg. Thanks for your good info. SKIPPER1
  16. Hey fellow members, First of all Happy Thanksgiving to all members, Enjoy. Now a Question. I notices a yellow wire hanging from behind the dash directly behind my headlight switch on my 49' Plymouth Business Coupe. Got under the dash (tight fit) and noticed a metal cylindrical shaped fuse holder attached to the wire with a 16 amp fuse inside that was still good. Could not see where the loose end was connected. Could someone help w/ a suggestion? Could this be the reason dimmer switch is not working, and conversely- my headlights?? Thanks in advance, SKIPPER1

  18. hey Greg, Thanks for the reply. Also noticed the rubber bushing around the spring mechanism on shifting rod (engine compart.) is dry rotted. Any connection w/ my problems shifting into 3rd? SKIPPER1
  19. hey Chet, Sprayed all the linkage, shifter lever, and shifter arm w/ WD40; took the old '49 for a drive, and , with a little effort got er into 2nd but not 3rd. next I will get under and clean all connectors of all the years of oil, grease, dirt, etc. Any other suggestions?   20. Hi, First of all this is my first posting, so bear with me. I,ve owned a beautiful '49 Ply P15 3 window business coupe for the past year. runs and drives great, 69,000 miles all original. I was out and about for a few weeks and did not drive it, when I finally got her out of the garage again i could not get her to shift into 2nd or 3rd-- 1st and reverse was no problem. I' ve given the linkage and shifting lever a liberal dose of WD40 but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. SKIPPER1
