Identifying Heavy Truck 1950 2.5 Ton?
52diesel replied to 52diesel's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Great information! I was hoping it had a larger engine bay than what my 1.5 ton is. The plan for the truck is a cummins 6bt swap, should fit right in there without the firewall modifications that my 52 had to endure. You think there would be any interest in that big six out of the truck? I would hate to see it go to the junker, but at least it wouldn't be the whole truck. What I noticed most weird about it, is it has a hood ornament and a radio antenna, this is the first heavy truck I have seen with both of those. -
A buddy of mine is looking at his first pilot house this weekend. The seller reports it as a 2.5 ton, but I haven't seen one of these before. It has a longer hood than my 1.5 ton and it's running a 10 lug front axle. I have never seen one with the longer hood area. I wanted to pick the experts about this truck, is it really just a 2.5 ton? Is the front end really longer, or are the fender flares just shorter? Any ideas on the 10 lug Budd wheels, maybe a newer axle swap? Any help would be appreciated.

pictures of original seat cover material
52diesel replied to 52diesel's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
All those pictures look like what I have. Did they all have the brown vinyl back in the day? Thanks for the replies, made my life easy. I just have to tell the upholsterer to get something as close to what on there as they can. -
I am looking for some pictures of a seat out of a 1952 Dodge pilot house truck. My 1.5 ton has a brown vinyl seat with an interesting texture to it. it is torn in a few areas though so I'm going to have it redone with new foam and a new seat cover. I wanted to see if anyone had some pictures of a truck with original seat covers in it so I could get a fabric that was relatively close.

OT parts suppliers ought to be like this OT
52diesel replied to JBNeal's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I knew that looked like an A-Line. The one here in Austin is very similar. They know their stuff. -
Lots of small trailer, garden tractor, atv, etc tires are sized by the outside diameter because most have a standard wheel size for that outside diameter. Can be confusing, someone should standardize all this stuff.

I never box an item up and take it to the post office when someone asks what shipping is. I just estimate size and weight and get an estimate online. Sometimes the shipping cost can scare people off from buying something. Look at it this way, now you know what it is for the next buyer.

Well, I haven't found any interest in anyone wanting to buy my 49 B1B, so I'm slowly starting to talk myself into restoring it. First things first, try and get it to run. The oil in the motor looks pretty good, it turns free, so I'm going to change plugs wires fluids and see if i can get it running off a gas can. This brings me to the carb. It obviously needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Which one should I do? This is a factory 218, It will probably remain stock internals, might hot rod it with exhaust, intake, etc in the future, but not right now. Is it worth it to rebuild this carb or do most people just end up replacing them with something aftermarket or adapt a 2bbl or something to it? I'm not afraid to build or modify and intake, but do these motors really need that to run good?

I'm 6'3", most of my height is in my torso. I fit pretty good in the 49 1/2 ton with the factory seat still in it. Leg room is tighter than the head room.

Differences between B-1-B and B-2-B
52diesel replied to 52diesel's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
All I need is a nice cab without a dented roof like my 1.5 ton. I will gladly sell the B-1-B to someone interested in keeping it intact since it seems to be a little bit on the rare side. -

If a B3 cab will look right with my B1 doors and front end. If not, what will it take to line up? Just the doors or the whole front end too? -

What I bought this truck for was the cab. The cab of my 1.5 ton has a pretty caved in roof and there are a lot of holes around the rear window where a piece of plexiglass had been screwed up after it broke. I am planning on using a step van (frito lay truck) chassis with a cummins 4bt diesel engine, although I am thinking a 6 cylinder might be nice. So, if you have a cab or know where I can get my hands on one of those diesels I would be much obliged. Nice to find someone so close to home that likes these old trucks. -

I went out and wire brushed the frame and confirmed the serial number is the same as the door with the X. I took a look at the bed the wood floor is long gone, but the bed side that goes down under the bed floor is painted the same dark green that is on the inside of the cab and under the hood. I am inclined to think it is the original bed. Or at least one of the same color, most repaints on old trucks I have ever seen didn't get below the bed floor. The only history I know on the truck is that it was sitting in the middle of a field when the man I bought it from purchased the land in 1970. He just let it sit in the same spot until his health starting going down hill and he decided to start clearing some stuff off. I found the truck in a Craigslist ad, and we pulled it up onto the trailer from the same spot it had been sitting for 40 years. -

No kidding. It's amazing what you can drag out of a field sometimes. Well, makes me kind of feel bad about my plans to use it as part of my 1.5 ton project. Might have to restore it as it is or find a new home for it with someone who wants an original truck. -

Tried running the one off the tag on the decoder, comes back invalid. 82149375X Here's some pics of the whole truck. http://www.ctmrs.com/brad/48b1/ I'll have to take my wire brush to the frame and see what I can find. Thanks for all of the help!
