  1. Tom, I got some info and measurements from Tex Smiths how to build hot rod mopars. This book is hard to find now when I get a chance I quote the book specifics for you. Me and a friend used the book for the first few cuts then we made the rest on our own. We cut the stock frame off about 7 inches from the body mounts. Then we made two 2x4 frame rails that we stacked on top the the stock frame. We recessed pockets and drilled holes for the subframe mounts. This subframe bolts on and is real easy the best part is you motor mounts and steering box are already on the subframe. As for the column I have mock it in the truck and I might have to shorten the shaft a bit. I'm not real sure yet because I didn't have a seat to try the fit. After the floor is done I tackle that one. I did mock up most of the truck and there doesn't seem to be any major issues yet,but I'll keep posting the progress here for eveybody.
  2. Tim, This is my first ground up project so I wanted to keep it easy so far it is. There is a few good things about this frame swap. First its mopar if you use a v8 subframe your motor mounts are done and your steering box is mounted no extra time spent there. The big thing for me is its cheap. There is a down side it doesn't look clean like a Mustang II kit would. You asked about the motor 318 from the donor car ran well I'm just doing away with the Lean Burn crap and adding a 4bl carb and intake for now. Its also getting the 904 auto for the donor car. My floor is going to be the hardest part of my build for me. this cab is real bad in the front mount area on both sides. The middle and back are good so I plan to reuse that and cut the front apart make a frame and new body mounts. I'll take pics when I get going on that.
  3. Now that the weather is getting colder its time to start on my shop truck project a 49 B-1-something truck. So I unpiled all the stuff on it and took some pics for you guys there not great pics. To give alittle back round on this truck, I got it on ebay for $125. My plan was to build a hopped up flathead six for it but the motor was locked up and full of water. On to plan B, I came across a how to book on mopar hot rods and found this frame swap. It looked easy enuff so back on ebay for a donor car. Jackpot I scored a 89 5th ave for $135 running driving car. We cut it up and saved all I could. I cleaned up the subframe and with some help hacked it on the truck. We used some of the book notes and winged ther rest. When it was all done my 3/4 ton sits about a foot low in the front and the rear. You should be able to see from the pics the frame. So far all I did in the rear was put the donor car 8 1/4 rear on top of the stock springs. Now I doing metal work, making a frame for the roted floor and moving the fire wall. When its all done it should be a good useable truck not a show truck or a restored ride just a old truck. I know some of you have questions about the frame swap so ask away. Later John
  4. Ian, this truck was to far gone to restore. Its going to be a rod. Once I get it out where I can take some good pics I'll show off the sub frame swap and other stuff I've done. I'm trying to keep it all mopar we been calling it "anti-chevy shop truck" Later John
  5. Heres a bad pic of my shop truck project. Now that my D-24 is back together I'll be digging this out and getting it done.
  6. I know a good bit about the S-10 swap for chevys. I've never seen a dodge on a S-10 frame. You might want to check the width on the front end it might be alittle wide for the dodge. Later John
