  1. I just read your post- but if you havent found any parts yet I hae a couple fenders, hood and front grille that a coumpetent bodyman could finesse the "character" out of. I am 2 hrs south of nashville just off I 65. If you are interested they are yours for the asking.
  2. Cool truck! I haven't seen that color on it before but it looks great!
  3. That paint will probably buff out with rubbing compound and lots of elbow grease!
  4. We were hit, but the damage was mostly due to trees falling. My wife bruised her left shoulder right after when she walked into the tree limb that went through the roof of the carport right next to her car. My son got a bump on the head when the cellar door tried to suck him out with it, but he didn't drop his gameboy. All in all we are very fortunate-a lot of people lost their lives, especially down around Tuscaloosa.
  5. I have a vintage step bumper to put on my '48 B1D. The truck is red with the black box as stock. Anybody have any idea back in the day would it most likely be painted silver or black?
  6. Nice work! Those old ones were hardly even a pattern!
  7. My truck in it's current state of assembly. Still needs an interior, weatherstripping, finishing pieces, etc.. Chris
  8. I have towed my 48 B1D a lot with my wife's Yukon XL, no trouble at all. The biggest thing I have towed with it was one of those small tracked excavators. It pulled that just fine but it was a bit of a challenge on braking. Nice looking truck!
  9. Does anybody know if a 6 volt electric fuel pump is available?
  10. I found a shop in Birmingham that says they can do that. Thanks for the good advice.
  11. There is a bolt there, but it doesn't seem to be enough to hold it down. I had the new set of pins put in by the local machine shop, and he told me and showed me the play was in the axle , not the steering knuckle/spindle ends. I was thinking of taking the axle to a bigger shop in Birmingham to see if they could drill it out and use a set of the 0.8xxxx kingpins instead. Either that or maybe they could ream it out to 7/8", press in a piece of round stock, then drill that out to the 0.76xxx size. Any machinists out there know if that is doable?
  12. Sorry, I meant to say the balbearing part goes between the axle and the bottom ring of the spindle.
  13. Mine is a '48 1 ton, it has the smallest size pins, like 0.768etc.. The only bushings that came with the pins gets pushed into the spindle. it has a ball bearing type spacer/bushing between the bottom of the axle and the pin.
  14. I am having trouble with my king pins. I have 2 front axles. On the best one the the hole where the pin goes through the axle on the driver's side is wallowed out, so it wobbles even with new pins. On the other axle both sides are like that. I am not a machinist, but it seems to me there must be a way to either put a sleeve in there, or use a bigger king pin and drill it out. Has anybody tackled this problem?
  15. Thanks, I knew there was a name for that particular finish, but I couldn't think of it.
  16. Today I put my windsheild in- first time I've ever done that, and it went pretty well. I am going to redo my model 61 heater, and when I took it apart it still had original paint in perfect shape on some parts, and the motor ran fine when tested. Does anybody know where I can buy that scalloped looking gray paint that originally came on the heater? I am hoping that it is available in a spray can. Also, how about those tacks that hold in the cowl lacing?
  17. I am currently working on wiper arms- my truck is a '48. I have been asked what length arms I need, but since I haven't had any I don't know what size to ask for. Would somebody mind measuring the length of the wiper arms on their truck with electric wipers? Thanks
  18. Thanks for the info- I will work on finding the flea mkt parts.
  19. I bought a set of electric wipers about a year or two ago, and I have them wired up and working. I ether can't find the arms or I didn't get them with the purchase, I can't remember. Has anybody ever converted the arms from a vacuum setup, or does anybody have a set of arms I could buy?
  20. While we are talking about door glass, how do I attach the glass to the track?
  21. When I bought my truck it leaked like that but on the parts motor I got there is a flange that sticks up into the inside of the exhaust manifold so that the exhaust doesn't come into direct contact with the gasket between the pipe and the manifold. I put it back together like that-should make the seal last longer.
  22. John; Thanks! I used Cabot semi-gloss spar urethane. I applied 3 coats , sanded, 3 more coats, sanded, 1 coat, fine sand, then final coat. I let it sit and cure a couple weeks before putting it together.
  23. Thanks! I hope I don't offend the Mopar world, but it is IH farmall red.
