I'm needing a rear window for my '50 DeSoto coupe. I'm finding some four doors in wrecking yards, they look the same. Do they interchange?

How do I remove the lock cylinders on my '50 DeSoto?

It kinda is the worst of it, this car is really nice! Last registered in '88, I have to wonder why she's been doing for 30 years.

I should have added, she's not running yet, so I don't know how the ballast resistor on the tansmission erlectrics works.

Here's my incomplete answer. A few months ago, I picked up a'50 Desoto. All original, all there. A previous owner had purchased an alternator, 12v coil, and a Speedway 12 circuit mini fuse harness. And, took out most of the original wiring. So, my son and I (mostly him) are installing the new harness. The only troubles he's had are the original turn signal switch needed to come out and have the damaged insulation wires replaced, the column switch doesn't support a hazard circuit, so that wire is tied up out of the way, and the dime light socket being grounded to the body required the socket changed for a separate ground wire for the door switches. In all, nothing tough to figure out. Having something custom made for the car, as others have suggested, would be a great way to go, but my car came with this harness,r so we used it.

It's a poorly done, old spray in covering. The visor (not pictured) has the same finish. It'll be stripped soon.

Hi all! I'll start with thank you for all the help I've gotten as I've been lurking here since getting my 1950 Desoto. This forum and Google search have been so helpful while we've (my son and I) have been working on her. Now, we've got an issue which I haven't found an answer for. First, backstory. This car is so nice! 81,000 original miles, sitting 30 years. All original, all there but the seats. A previous owner had purchased an aftermarket wiring harness and the other parts to covert to 12v. Downside, also removed most of the original wiring. Coulda used it, right? So, we're rewiring the car. Now, the question. The wires coming out of the steering column aren't making sense. I thought there would be a power in, horn out, turn signal left and right. There's six wires, none of which are working the rest light. Previously, we were under the car and wondered aloud be"What does this loose wire go to?". When none of the wires from the column seemed to be working, he pulled the steering wheel to access the switch. I wasn't expecting to see a wire in the middle of the steering shaft. Turns out it was the loose wire under the car. Maybe nothing works because the ground is disconnected? He connected it to ground, but still nothing works the test light. So, does anyone know which wire is supposed to work which circuit?

A few months ago, a got a '50 Desoto Custom, and I've been a lurker here since, looking up info and finding answers to common questions. I've got one I haven't found an answer for. My head has a "feature" I've not seen before, a hole In the #6 combustion chamber which goes into the water jacket. It lines up with a pipe plug, which I've removed. You can see daylight through the hole. Seems to me, water would pour into the cylinder. Is there supposed to be something there?
