  1. I have a spare flathead six motor that came w/my 1951 Dodge 2 1/2 ton dump truck. Trying to find out the size. The normal place just below the head on the block cannot be read. Is there another place I might find this number to determine what I have? Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks again for the responses. Mine is mounted to the block/head, but would it be OK to use the rubber brake lines, like the ones going to the calipers/brake drums? Just concerned about the heat. Back to the white smoke coming out of the exhaust, I did a pressure test on the cooling system & only found a coolant leak at the radiator itself.
  3. Thanks for the response.
  4. I would have let the engine run longer, but the return line for the oil filter canister started leaking. It is brittle & broke right loose from the fitting. I plan on repairing that leak & starting it again & see if the white smoke burns off & clears up. My lines are rubber with a mesh reinforcement on the outside. Can I just use steel brake line instead? Also in answer to Mr. Coggins question, I do have a pinhole leak in the top of the radiator. I think the passenger side of the hood caused it. Bit of solder to repair that. Thanks for the response guys!
  5. If the water distribution tube is bad in my dump truck flathead six will it blow white smoke out of the exhaust and smoke under the exhaust/intake manifold? Just replaced the head gasket & fired it up hoping to get back on the road. Smoke again, so maybe it was not the head gasket after all. Also the return line for my canister oil filter broke off. Can I use steel tubing like is used for brakes to replace that? One step forward & two steps back!!! Thanks in advance for any help.
  6. So water does not run through the head @ that point? Reason I am asking is because I had the truck @ idle & my son & I were bleeding the brakes. All of a sudden white smoke started coming from under the hood & out of the exhaust. Shut it down, looked under the hood & you could smell anti-freeze. Figured the head gasket blew. That is what prompted me to pull the head & order a head gasket. When going to re-assembly I noticed the hole in the combustion chamber. Pulled the head on my parts motor & the same thing. Just trying to ensure it is supposed to be there. Thanks for the reply!
  7. Pulled the head off my 2 1/2 ton flathead & was ready to replace the gasket & noticed a hole in #6 combustion chamber about the size of a "BB". There is a brass plug on the top of the head that seems to correspond to that hole. What is that for? I have a spare engine for parts I pulled the head off of & it has the same hole in it. Please help! Need to get this beast back on the road.
  8. Thanks for the info. Parts store had no idea.
  9. Thanks so much. Help me out again, if you can. The gasket I got is copper on (1) side & Fel-Pro paper/cardboard on the other. Which side goes up & which side goes down?
  10. Can I get a straight for sure answer from the old timers out there for the sequence and torque of the head "bolts" of my 1951 Dodge 2 1/2 ton flathead 6-cylinder. I keep getting different numbers & want it done right. Thanks in advance.
  11. I was afraid of that. Mine is a B-3 JA. Same/Same?
  12. Waiting on a new master cylinder I ordered for my 2 1/2 ton dump truck. (Centric #130.81004) Bore size is 1 1/4". I have recently found one that is supposed to be for my truck, but bore size is 1 1/2". Have I ordered the wrong one or does someone know if what is en route to me will work with that size truck? Wanna go ahead & get the other on it's way to save time if it is necessary, & I'm sure if I install the Centric, I won't be able to return it.
  13. Ordered one from Parts Geek this morning. Made by Centric. Thanks for the info.
  14. Just installed the new re-sleeved wheel cylinders from White Post, but it seemed worth it. Now I want to replace the master cylinder seeing as the brake fluid has all leaked out after (3) days. Any info on part #'s would be appreciated.
  15. I have a 1951 Dodge 2 1/2 ton dump truck & need a master cylinder. Do not care if aftermarket or not. Original # is Wagner Lockheed # FE-786. Anybody had to replace theirs on this type truck? I understand Centric makes a replacement & they are pretty reasonable. Please Advise.
  16. Does the bottom rod that controls the butterfly get new seals & bushings? I think that is where it is leaking from. Also, where do I find the actual part # for the carb to order the kit or replacement. The parts manual just have chronological #'s.
  17. Thanks for the reply. Took the rod loose from that pivot point where it connects to the carb. From there to the pedal is fine. There is a catch point when I manually operate the carb & it leaks out the front towards the bottom where a rod goes up into the carb.
  18. Having problems w/the carb on my 1951 2 1/2 ton dump truck. Would just as soon replace if not too costly or maybe purchase rebuilt unit. Problem is all I can find is for a 230 cu. in., not the 250 mine is supposed to have. Any thoughts. Thought it was my throttle linkage, but come to find out it is the carb.
  19. Will a throttle linkage set-up from pedal to carburetor off of a 1953 B-4 fit a 1951 B-3? I'm having a problem with mine hanging up no matter what I do. Already replaced the pedal w/new, lubed all joints, but still there is a catch in it. Could it also maybe be the carburetor itself?
  20. Is there a trick to installing a replacement gas pedal on a B-3 truck. I have tried several times & do not want to ruin the new pedal. It just will not seat & stay seated on the pivot studs. I must be doing something wrong. It looks like it would just pop into place.
  21. Anyone out there had to replace their gas pedal before? Cheapest I can find for replacement is $49.95. Part #451964.
  22. Thanks, That has been bugging me. Took the pedal completely off & that didn't help. The rod going thru the hole in the firewall seems awful sloppy. I will clean & check all pivot points & look for something binding. Just noticed that the battery cable leading to the starter has been taped up. Could be the culprit. Will get someone to operate it while I investigate.
  23. Sprayed w/white lithium grease, did not appear to help. Does the dry lube work better?
  24. That sounds right. Mine has the 2 speed rear end & is JA as well. I'll check those part #'s out. Thanks. Sent wheel cylinders to White Post Restorations in Va. yesterday. Part #'s did not compute to anyone here in Jacksonville, N.C. Can't wait to get this thing back to work! While waiting on cylinders, I have begun a basic tune-up. The throttle linkage seems to be hanging up until I hit the gas pedal again hard. Anyone had an issue w/any part of their throttle linkage? Just started happening.
  25. That sounds right. Mine has the 2 speed rear end & is JA as well. I'll check those part #'s out. Thanks.
