1947 Plymouth Trunk Lock Cylinder Removal

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks,

I need to remove the trunk lock cylinder on my 47 Ply for servicing. I couldn't find any information about this in my Plymouth Service Manual.

On the underside of the trunk lid, there is a metal plate, held to the lid with four screws - does this have to be removed to get to the lock cylinder?

I hope not, since two of the screws seem to be seized...:(

Anyway, thanks in advance.

If you just want to remove the trunk handle including the lock tumbler,

there is a screw at the outside bottom, and a stud at the top of the

handle with a nut. Located right above the lock mechanism.

IF you want to remove the tumbler, its best to have a key, which you

need to turn about a quarter or half turn, then depress the little button

on the side of the lock. If no key, is a bigger problem.

Do not need to remove the latch.

You will be able to see the top of the lock cylinder once the handle is removed and you can see

inside the back of it.
