Howdy all. I have a problem...I finally installed my 36 chrysler OD in my 39 ply and the reverse doesn't work. I can drive it in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. The reverse gear definately is in the tranny, I can put it in gear...but when I let the clutch out...NO DICE!!! It doesn't move the drive shaft...engine just runs..and the car doesn't move! ANY IDEAS??? I made sure the OD wasn't engaged...and even tried it engaged too just in case i had it the wrong way. I am ready to explode.

Does your '39 have the column mounted shift (3 on a tree?) and did reverse work before the o/d unit was installed? Does the overdrive have a "freewheeling" feature? If so-you may need a linkage adjustment on the shift mechanism of the tranny or o/d unit. Mike

Not 3 on the tree...it's a floor shifter...and the lever is manual...no cable yet....I just finished taking the Tranny out again....now I gotta open er up and see what the heck is gioing on.

I installed an OD in my 40 Ply, P-9 ( column shifter ) and worked for several days to get into reverse after reinstalling the tranny. It was a linkage adjustment problem. On my car the upper arm on the transmission "must" be completely forward in order to get both low and reverse. Small adjustments are significant.

Good Luck
