Lou Earle Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Got the t-5 conversion kit from Paul Curtis- it is a really fine piece of machine work - fist both the input shaft housing on the S10 and thebellhousing perfectly- . I was wondering about the unsupported tail shaft but 1 Just picking up a t-5 and an overdrive plym trans my guess is the Plymouth weighs about 20 to 25 pound MORE!! 2WHEN LOOKING ABOUT T-5 TRANS i RAN ACROSS THIS STATEMENT FROM A BUILDER AND ARTICLE WRITER ON THE T 5 CONVERSION INTO CHEVY Trucks "I've run the T-5's and Saginaws with no trans mount several thousand miles with no problems, the trucks mount on the bell housing. It did however make me nervous with aluminum case sticking so far out in space so I fabricated a cross member from the original truck's cross member. I cut and welded a recessed pocket in it, also cut and welded in tubes where the bolts pass through the vertical part of the cross. I bolted the mount to the tranny first and then slid the cross under it and bolted it on. Again perhaps not necessary but makes me feel better" Guess it is up to the individual Lou Quote
curtiswyant Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 After all the other work involved with the trans swap (driveshaft, linkage, etc), making a simple trans mount/x-member is cheap insurance IMO Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I'm doing the very same thing in my '52 Cranberry. Speedway has a tubular trans mounts for pretty cheep and have a selectin from straight and drops in 2" increments up to 8". I'm getting the 2" drop, http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/4219,443_Tubular-Transmission-Mount-with-2andquot;-Drop.html?itemNo=tubular%20transmission%20mount Plus from what I've measured the T-5 has the same bolt pattern for mounts as the TH350, but I'll know for sure when it shows up Wednesday, and its $10 from speedway as well for a mount. It's 1 7/8" tall so you can use that to help set up for the right one for exhaust clearence. Also they measure the drop from the top of the tube, so the straight mount is 0" drop and the 2" is measured down from there and so forth. So check it out and post some pics of your progress!! What are you doing for the throwout bearing????? Quote
