51 Fargo
well I find out that he has been very sick since Xmas and today he has past away. To be honest I didn,t like the guy because of his way in treating people but he did make a big differance in the hot rod industry
Norm's Coupe
Did anyone mention why he died? I only know from hearsay how he treated people, but he did do a lot for the hobby. Sorry to hear he died.
Bob_Koch
Here's one article announcing his death and another that mentions part of the reason for his illness. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080227/FREE/467772614/1024 http://www.pr-usa.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=63276&Itemid=
Norm's Coupe
It's strange but neither of those says what the problem was.
Thunder II
I grew up in La Habra Calif, where his shop is. Orange County had a LOT of cool stuff like that. Irregardless of how one feels about Boyd, he is/was a driving force in the custom car industry. I for one, will miss him.
moparvern
I knew Boyd and I can say he was a very nice person. As a fellow builder, he taught me alot in a very short time. His show did not give the world the opportunity to get to know the real person R.I.P. Boyd
Norm's Coupe
I knew Boyd and I can say he was a very nice person. As a fellow builder, he taught me alot in a very short time. His show did not give the world the opportunity to get to know the real personR.I.P. Boyd That was why I said I only knew him by hearsay and couldn't comment on the way he treated his workers, etc. I know a couple of auto shop owners closely here by me. When you hear some people talk about them they say, oh that guy is really a hard nose. Yet, if you know them personally they are as gentle as a lamb and very nice people, and would help you anyway they could. Bottom line, you can't always judge a book by it's cover and the same goes for people. As far as his TV show went, I don't have cable so never saw his show. However, again part of that show was probably just an act to keep people interested and not the true personality of the people involved. Guest Dave Claussen
I watched the show for the first year or so it was on but then came to the conclusion that most of what was on the show was scripted or taken out of context. In my opinion, what you saw was mostly done mainly for one thing and that was ratings. It was just another "reality" show made to entertain only. I started watching hoping to learn something about building street rods but after a while I lost interest because of all the arguing and goofing around. I really don't believe that show was a true representation of his expertise as a car builder. It's a well known fact that he was an pioneer in the car building industry. He will be missed by many who knew him personally and by many of those who enjoy the street rod building hobby. It warms my heart to know that other folks who knew him say he was truly a nice person. I just wish he had done a serious show about the hobby. I think it would have been a big success. Thanks Boyd, where ever you are.
