grey beard Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 My running boards looked like lettuce leaves - curbed many times, twisted and bent. When I removed them, all the brackets underneath were rotted away. I had new brackets made and welded into place, and I beat the boards back to straight, but doing body work on these panels with their fancy lips on the outside edges and the grooved top surfaces was a real nightmare. To get the job done, I made fiberglass molds of both the outer edge and the grooved top surface. Then I glued 36 grit paper into these molds with feather edge disc cement and used them for my sanding blocks to get the edges and grooves straight. The boards are in primer now. When I get 'em finished I'll show some pics - roller painted, of course - and see how you all like them. Anyone doing body work on your running boards and can use these molds, just pay the $8 postage and I'll priority ship 'em to you free of charge. When you're finished, send them to somebody else who can use them. LOL Quote
Bob_Koch Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 A great idea. Like your creativity. I've created sanding molds for curvy stuff using bondo and then put the sand paper into that. I think I like your fiberglass idea better - I guess I'll have to teach myself how to fiberglass. Quote
Thunder II Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 I like your creativity AND your offer. Lucky for me, I dont need them though. Quote
