grey beard Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 My heater had a manual door that could be opened to let air out of the heater box when the defroster was not needed. I found a cable operated defroster air valve on one of my son's parts trucks in Monrtana and liberated it. Only problem was the cable arm was broken off. Took it home and tried to fix it but found the entire valve flapper and housing were made of white (or pot) metal that I could not repair by welding. Had to fabricate a new valve flap and shaft. Pics enclosed show both the old and new valve as well as the pot metal housing. Now I can operate my defroster via cable control. These valve units are sorta' rare. If you find one, handle ig gently. They break easily because the air flap can interfear with the case where the two parts screw together. Don't have any idea why Dodge made this stuff of pot metal. All the rest of the heater parts appear to be steel or copper. LOL Quote
