dsquared Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 When I pulled my transmission out of my b1b to rebuild it I found out someone had striped out the original bolts. The replacement bolts are 5/16 instead of 3/8 and the fit is sloppy. My question is would drilling out the helicoils and nut and bolting the trans on be the best solution or should I pull the bellhousing out of my parts truck. There seems to be enough room for a nut to fit without hitting the clutch. any ideas welcome Doug Quote
grey beard Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Doug, Why not just go up one size - drill and tap to 3/8 or 7/16 and use nice new grade 8 bolts and locks? You'd never have to look back or worry about that fix if there's room for the bolt heads. JMHO Quote
dsquared Posted November 16, 2007 Author Report Posted November 16, 2007 Thanks Grey Beard I didn't think you could tap cast iron very easily. I will try your idea out, I'll let you know how I made out thanks Doug Quote
