Interloper Posted April 5, 2023 Report Posted April 5, 2023 (edited) I was wondering if anyone knows anyone who makes drop uprights for a 1940 Plymouth? I just got off the phone with Fatman Fab and unfortunately they discontinued the drop uprights for the 1940 Plymouth. I asked if they sold their Jig or would be willing to sell it, but I guess they still use the jig for 1941+ Plymouths. Buying a used set won't be easy since there are three sizes depending on your upper control arm, but maybe someone has a set and it happens to be the same size as mine? I seen this post on the HAMB where the owner made his own drop uprights, but sounds like I will need another set to work with. I've seen pictures of the uprights and they don't seem like they would be hard to make. Maybe someone who has a set would be willing to get some measurements off their upright? I'd really like to buy a set, but I feel like I'm gonna end up having to make them. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS! Edited April 5, 2023 by Interloper Quote
Neira Posted May 7, 2023 Report Posted May 7, 2023 After looking into this, it seems like making your own is definitely an option if you can score the donor parts. I’m thinking that pre-heating the base material to 200 degrees, ensuring a full penetration joint design, and using a low hydrogen SMAW filler material (or GTAW process) would do the trick. I would also make sure that the weld is slightly contoured and blended smoothly into the components to mitigate stress risers at the joint. Farman did seem to add reinforcing “doubler” plates around their’s. Good luck. Quote
