Guest 51plymouthod Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 I purchased new main and rod bearings for my B-1-C (218 C.I.D.) The pickup has few miles, 40K, and the machine shop mike'd & polished the crank. They said to get std. size bearings, which I did. The replacements were old government stock, packaged in the original GI boxes. The rod beadings were perfect. The mains were obviously new, but looked like some of the shiny plating had bled off, leaving black spots that looked like the babbit under the tin flash. They were very smooth and the best mechanic in the County (72 years old) examined them and told me he's seen this many times and the bearings were just fine...to go ahead and use them. I've overhauled a few (2 or 3) engines years back, so I'm no expert...but I'd never seen this before, so I thought I'd ask the experts on this board. Have you seen this before?...and Would you use them? Quote
MBF Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 I've never seen that, but if they're NOS and your mechanic (who sounds like you have a lot of trust in) says they're good to go-I'd take his advise. Experience is the best teacher. Good luck. Mike Quote
