turn signal arm will not return to neutral position

hey guys !

on a 53-54  dodge  royal coronet ,  my turn signal lever on the column will not return to the neutral position and a left turn is made. I installed a turn signal slide mechanism under the steering wheel where the lever screws into  it is brand new" nos"  item   and another one off my other 54 dodge   that works fine  but still no luck with it to cancel in the neutral position.  I'm  thinking now maybe it could be   that notched area under the steering wheel  that trips sliding plate mechanism .  it stops blinking  but just doesn't return to the center position .  When that happens , the left brake light will not lite up until you center the blinker arm to center position .  anyone have any problem like this on there rides ?

Thanks guys !
