rfcr Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 Howdy All, I'm changing out my gas tank and the fuel sending unit, I'm going to try the 12 volt path. I need to know what type and or make to buy as a replacement. Quote
steveplym Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) You can go with a stock sending unit if you are planning on using an original gauge. Just have to use a voltage drop going to the power on the gauge. You can buy a runtz from Speedway motors and it works well. I've had mine on for five years and no issues. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Runtz-12-Volt-to-6-Volt-Reducers,2374.html If you are replacing it and wanting a cheaper route of sending unit I think some others have used a unit that is offered by JC whitney. Others will have to chime in on that as I have not had any experience with it. Edited July 15, 2014 by steveplym Quote
jhm1mc13 Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 I'm using my stock sending unit and fuel gauge with 12V. Seems accurate and so far no problems. Jim M Quote
rfcr Posted July 15, 2014 Author Report Posted July 15, 2014 Thanks, I was hoping to find a 12 volt sending unit. I am planning on changing out as much as I can. Quote
steveplym Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 Do a forum search for 12v fuel sending unit. You should find some information that may have already been discussed about it. I think it has been discussed before and there were several ideas. Quote
rfcr Posted July 15, 2014 Author Report Posted July 15, 2014 jhm1mc13, Your 6 volt sending unit and gauge works on a 12 volt system without a reducer? Quote
rfcr Posted July 15, 2014 Author Report Posted July 15, 2014 Zen Master, I searched the forum and tech and did not find any help. I do remember something on this but can't find it now. Quote
