D6H1 VS D6U1 Carburetor on P17 Question

Recommended Posts

Finally got the '49 Suburban home today, and it's stalling very bad off idle. I suspect an accelerator pump issue, so going to do a carb rebuild. P17 is supposed to have a D6H1, but when I checked, it was a D6U1. This is just a driver.

Any reason not to use and rebuild the D6U1 ?

Thanks in advance !

I don't think a different model carb will cause stalling problems...it would have to be really different from the original carb. Like really really different.

As you suspect, there is something else going on. Accelerator pump as mentioned, vacuum leak, timing way off, float way low or sunk or something...gaskets in the carb, like between body and base torn or deteriorated.

So yeah, rebuild that sucker. !!!! :)

Not worried about the "U" causing the stalling, just wondering if there is a reason I shouldn't  use the "U".

Sounds like you're in the camp of just run the "U", which I would rather do !

I'm not real familiar with those paticular carbs, but I can't imagine that they are different enough not to use it. Generally speakin, you can make a very wide variety of carburators work on a wide variety of engines. So use it. !!!
