addes426 Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) In my hunt for an old truck, I found an interesting one, titled as a 56. It looks like a 54 though. I figured that it was an early built 55 with the old style wind shield that didn't sell till 56 and was titled as a 56. I asked for the VIN (which is an ID number not a VIN back then) it comes up as a 54 C-1-B8 1/2 ton 241 V8 108-116 WB (it's the 108) Number 12275 off the assembly line. How does a truck that is plainly a 54 get a legitimate title saying it's a 56? Surely it didn't sit for 2 yrs. Any ideas? BTW, what does the C-1-B8 mean? Edited January 25, 2014 by addes426 Quote
austinsailor Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 There are numerous ways to get a title when there is none. On an older vehicle in many places they just rely on information from the person registering it. I've registered a number of them from the 40's and 50's and have never had to provide any proof. It just came from the paperwork that either the seller or myself provided. The seller's information was usually what I told them to write. The real question is "How do I fix it" if that is your desire. In Missouri I have a pretty good idea how to do it but that would vary state to state. Gene Quote
addes426 Posted January 26, 2014 Author Report Posted January 26, 2014 I googled the C-1-B8 and discovered this, a 1954 truck is a C1, B is 1/2 ton, 8 simply means it had a 241 V8. Done deal. Quote
HanksB3B Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 addes426, I don't think I've ever seen pictures of the 241 V8 and I'd like to. Looks like a nice truck! Did you buy it ? If so better start your hunt for the missing parts as soon as possible...Trucks got a lot of potential. How much are they asking ? Thanks, Hank Quote

A LA 318 and 727 is in place now. I haven't bought it, still in the looking stages. The 54 titled as 56 makes me wonder. The interior is from a Neon as best I can tell. (seats are anyway) 12V conversion. Most everything else is stock. I kinda dig it, but I like the rat rod look too. He's asking $3600. I want to look at it as soon as the weather clears out. It's more what I want than a stock truck I think. Quote
