I took it apart and cleaned out the bowl. It was dirty. No giant chunks but a lot of little flakes. It was bit reddish too. Rust? There is not a fuel filter. Can I mount one right before the carb or is it better to have it before the fuel pump? Thanks, Eric

A fuel filter before the carb is good, however one before the pump is even better. I have a new tank and line but I also have two filters. One right off the gas tank under the car and one between the pump and carb. Prior to changing gas tanks I only had the one between the carb and pump.

Norm, Thanks. If I had it right before the carb it would be easy to replace. I have a feeling I could be replacing it quite often at first. The outside of the carb is really shiny now. I washed the whole thing off. Again much thanks for the advice. Eric
