RichW Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I was wondering if anyone knew what the pointer is supposed to indicate in the center of the head. The top head is from a 1935 PJ engine and the one below is from a 1936 P-2 engine. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 The time of day it was cast I presume. Tom Quote
michael.warshaw Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 The time of day it was cast I presume.Tom that is correct, and on the block there is a d and n with a arrow also which shows it was made in the day or night shift, this was so chrysler corp could trace any probelms to whom and where the part was made. RichW Posted March 9, 2012 Author Report Posted March 9, 2012 That's very interesting and I here I thought the head was original to the engine. I thank you all for your help. Quote
54Illinois Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 I have one engine where the head and block dates are the same, but the shift is different. Quote
1940plymouth Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 If there is no D or P on these heads, does that mean that they were after market replacememts? What were DeSoto and Chrysler's markings on the heads, DS, C? Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 It is a code date for quality control. There should be a date, shift, and time marked. If they get a batch of defective parts they can quickly take them off the assembly line as long as they can identify them. Quote
