Bouncy B Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I'm looking for the bottom two grille bars for my 1949 B-1-B. The ones I have both have holes burned through from welding a grille guard on the bumper. Has anyone done any welding with stainless? I'm not sure if they could be repaired to look decent or not. grey beard Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 These grille bars are very much in demand. Everyone needs them. If you have a set, send them to David Turner, 4388 S. Willow, Fresno, CA 93715. He does amazing stainless repair, and is very reasonable. 559-237-0892. He repaired mine, and one was smashed. JMHO Quote
Bouncy B Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 How much did it cost? How did you ship your grille? Thanks Quote
Guest Flyer45er Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 How much did it cost? How did you ship your grille? Thanks I used Greybeard's suggestion and sent them to Dave Turner in Fresno. I shipped 2 bars FedEx for $7 including $200 insurance. He received them 2 days later, and bid $60 to take the dents out of one, and $120 to fix the 4' one that was pretty badly mashed up. He said he will also polish both to a high finish. Quote
Jim Shepard Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 I had Dave work on mine and I'm very satisfied. I think I paid $275 for dent removal and straightening (one was smashed flat) to all four, plus polishing. The one that was smashed is still a little wavy, but much better than before. Nice polished bars really set this trucks off, as you can see. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/shephatchery/alldone3.jpg You probably can't tell which one was smashed... Quote
grey beard Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 Bouncer, My neighbor has a complete nose for sale - pretty decent sheet metal, too. On it are all the stainless grille moldings you need. If you just want the grille moldings, he'll sell them separately. The truck had a grille guard, which was pushed into the moldings, leaving just a few small indentations that can easily be repaired - much, much nicer than mine were before restoration. Otherwise, they just need polishing. If you're interested, e-mail me privately. <oldabe@copper.net> Thanks Quote
Bouncy B Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Well I went to Pate Swap Meet (3rd largest in US) last weekend and found the bottom grille piece. It is absolutely perfect and only set me back $50. I may still have the Stainless Doctor polish and perfect them. By the way, saw lots of Ford and Chevy trucks at Pate but no Dodges (except one Power Wagon). I took my three boys and we had a great time. I told them anybody can restore a Ford or Chevy, but it takes someone special to tackle a Dodge! Quote
