Went to Autozone and picked up the contact cleaner and some double element turn signal enerds for a project and came across a guy I knew. He works there and is the one who I got my first 50 Chevy truck from. He mentioned that he had picked up a 50 Dodge Meadowbrook but planned to put a 440 in it. Then he mentioned he would be selling the engine out of the car so I had to ask how much. He said he'd take $100.00 for the engine and all if I pulled it. I havent seen it yet but he did say it turned over by hand and wasnt locked up.

After reading past posts on the 50's Dodge I think that it's been said that the tranny had to be pulled before the engine could be is this right? I could take both out at the same time on the 46 to early 49's but I've never pulled one on a 50 and this would make a big differance if I cant do the same with this car. If it were not so close to home I think I would charge him :D

Like I say though I havent seen it and dont know which yr engine it is, what condition it's in etc. This will be the area of a possible reduction in price but if it's not bad there's always parts that can be used. He also mentioned he was going to pull some of the moulding off and plans to put a Chrysler front grille on so there may be some parts soon if someone needs what he shows me that he's removing.

If he is planning to put a 440 in it, he will have to remove the front clip/doghouse eventually. If it's done before you remove the original, possibly with his help, the engine trans removal is pretty easy.

Front clip/doghouse comes off via about 16 bolts.

I agree Norm and it still may work out that way once i've talked to him some more. Told him up front he'd have a hard time giving it away after he told me what he wanted for it and by the look on his face I think he knew that. I may offer to pull it for the price of the engine and leave it at that or tell him he can pull it and I'll give him something for it. dont think he's too crazy about pulling the engine on it anyhow. If that worked out I would suggest pulling the front clip off first since it has to be done anyhow. We'll just see how much he really wants to do this project.
