Robert Horne Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 My wife says she wants to drive the 48 Dodge when I get it running good. I told her she needs to start driving with a "small Dodge". She did very good with the riding mower all summer.... Quote
randroid Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Robert, Seems to me anybody who drives a Budweiser delivery vehicle should be able to have anything she wants! I have just the opposite problem at my house so far as driving my old car; Lynn says she couldn't get used to a column shift (she's well experienced and very competent with a floor shift) but I think she's more intimidated by the car than anything else. She knows how long I've had Pigiron and how much time and money I've sunk into it and I think she's afraid of doing something, anything, wrong. What I plan to do is take her for a drive on deserted country roads and get her enthusiasm up then start showing her the subtle nuances between a '48 Plymouth and a 2004 Stratus. After all, there's a reason Pigiron has an 18.5" wide steering wheel, but I'm confident she'll easily overcome anything that's viewed as an obstacle. Maybe you might take the same approach when your squeeze is ready to jump behind the wheel but use a few lessons to build your confidence rather than hers. Just a thought after a few days mulling-over your situation. If, after trying what I suggested, you're still nervous there's always top-heavy insurance and Valium. -Randy Quote
Robert Horne Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 We have a Buick that the wife likes for an everyday vehicle. She has little interest in the 38 Coupe I have spent 25 years on. "Thank you God, Thank you God" For some reason she fell in love with the 48 four door Dodge. The Dodge needs a paint job, after alot of sanding/primer. Only one fender to do body work on. Dodge needs new seat covering, and the headliner put back in place. We live 3 miles from town, so we have plenty of empty roads for my wife to drive with no or very little traffic going in the direction away from town. When I get the brakes very good, we can cruise the 48 a little until we pull it in the shop to get it ready to paint. Quote
3dodgedoobie Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Robert don't live far from you. As seen u in va. Must be a wife thing my wife drove my Dakota once and was afraid of damaging it. She wants a gangsta 4 door car to drive. One with suicide rear doors etc etc. I told her its as long as my 06 4dr 4wd ram. She hates parking the truck. Quote
Robert Horne Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 Our 48 four door, bumper to bumper, is not much bigger than our 38 Coupe. Sitting inside the 48, it does seem to be much bigger. Quote
3dodgedoobie Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 How long from bumper to bumper. Quote
