Joe Flanagan Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Initially, I did not use thread sealer on my water pump and it did leak. After I backed the bolts out and used sealer, I didn't have any more problems. Quote
Vintage Metal Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 I only replaced the gasket between the block and the pump. The gasket for the outlet to the heater is okay and the leak is not coming from the gasket between the cover and pump housing. I used the same gasket material that you show in the picture Don Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 When I replaced my pump early this summer I did not get all the old material off the block. It leaked. I went back and used a razer blade and got all the material off. To make sure I used a camera and took close up pictures. I also used the copper type sealent. I let the car sit for a day to let the sealent dry before I attemped to start the car. You have to let it set up. There are only 3 bolts that hold the pump on. I used anti seize on the bolts with some sealent on the bolt shoulders. make sure the bolts around the back of the water pump are tight, that is the bolts on the backing plate you can't tighten them with the pump on the motor.
