Powerhouse Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Howdy folks. I have been contemplating trying out some radials on 39 ply. My bias are getting close to needing replacement anyway. WHAT is the correct tire height? All of the tires I've had in the same size were different! A few measurements of 650-16 tires previously owned by me: NANCO - 28.25 TALL 5.25 tread foot print 6.5 wide at side bulge 5 sidewall Firestone - 27 TALL 5.25 tread foot print 8.25 wide at side bulge 5.5 sidewall Tornell - 29 TALL 6.25 tread foot print 8.75 wide at side bulge 5.5 sidewall IF I stay with 16" tires - My choice could be: 205/70-16 - 27.3” TALL Goodyear Eagle LS2 8” tread foot print 5.75” sidewalls 215/65R16 - 27 205/75-16 - 28 215/70R16 - 28 If 15" wheels can be found - My choice could be any of these: P205 75 15 - 27 tall - 8 wide 6 sidewalls P215 75 15 - 27.7 tall 8.46 wide 6.34 sidewalls P225 75 15 - 28.3 tall 8.85 wide 6.65 sidewalls Quote
Robert Horne Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 I have been trying on different size tires on my 38 Coupe. What looks the best so far is 235/75-15 on the rear with mid 80s Ford Ranger steel wheels. On the front I will go with a little smaller tire. I am thinking 225/75-15, or a 235/70-15, not sure yet. I need one for a test fit. Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) Those seem really wide and tall. How is the fit? Do you have a stock rear end and drums? 235/75 = 29 tall, 9.25 wide foot print, 7 sidewalls? 225/75 =28.25 tall, 8.8 wide foot, 6.6 sides? 235/70 = 28 tall, 9.25 foot, 6.5 sides? Also, got any pics of those wheels? I'd like to see them. Do they look like artillery wheels? Edited March 11, 2011 by Powerhouse Quote
james49ply Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 If you go with a wider tire, watch for tire rub on the front, yhe inside of the tire could rub with componants there. I went Firestone 680's 215/75/15, speedo correct, smooth ride, and definatley better handleing with radials Quote

Powerhouse Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 A P215 75 15 should be 27.7 tall and 8.46 wide. Is that what they actually measure? I don't think I can get much wider than I have on there now...it has about an inch before it hits frame/brake line on the front of the front tire and just as close tot the tie rod end on the rear of the front tire. Powerhouse Posted March 31, 2011 Author Report Posted March 31, 2011 I put the Dunlop Radial Rover 215/75r15 tires on the 15x5 Wheel Vintiques wheels. GREAT fit...and good looking too. The wheels will not take the original caps...and need a tiny bit of grinding to the brake drum rivets if ya want them to sit flush. I am waiting on a set of drums that are already ground and have the studs installed from a forum member. I am pleased with the look of the tires and wheels. Quote
