austinsailor Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Recently there was a post about some sodium filled valves on ebay, they're still there. I'm trying to figure out if I could use them on any of my motors. Item # 360122781944, chrysler part #1319090 Listing says for chrysler 251 & 265 plus others. I have 5 motors I could use, one is unidentified (reman with tag gone) and wonder how to tell if they would fit any of mine. My motors: 48 Desoto 236 s11 49 Chrysler 251 c45 51 fargo 311 code, unknown displacement, probably 230 and a 48 COE code t154 251 ci. The description would indicate that they would fit at least the Chrysler and COE, but I'm sure the stems are bigger. Can they just be reamed out? Anyone have any info to pass along? Quote
grey beard Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Tradoitoionaly, sodium filled exhaust valves are used only on industrial or heavy equipment applications that run against the governor most of the time. Their value in a street vehicle would be negligible at best. From my experience with MoPar flathead engines, valve guides on exhaust valves wear out before the valves themselves go, so sodium filed exhaust valves would not help anything much. Usually, MoPar valves wil last through many overhauls,as long as the guides are serviced at the same time. JMHO Good Luck Quote
