Don G 1947 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 I think I remember someone (maybe Blueskies) having trouble using a military oil pump or maybe it was a military distributor in one of our (218) engines. Seems like maybe the tang didn't line up with the slot or something like that. At any rate, I am trying to determine if an oil pump from a military supplier will work in a civilian 218. Thanks for your help. Don Quote
james curl Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 The slot is offset to one side and the Military distributor is likewise off set to the side. I would think you would need both. Quote
aero3113 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 What is the part number? I bought a pump that someone said was a military issue pump and it worked fine for me. Quote
Don G 1947 Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Don't know the part number. Was going to buy one from Midwest Military. Don Quote
aero3113 Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 This is the box from the pump I installed. I was told it might be a military pump because of the M-37 Number. Quote
Don G 1947 Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Before I called the supplier and inquired about the oil pump I wanted a little knowledge so I could ask the right questions. Your responses gave me that. He said the M37 truck had the offset slot in the distributor, but the WC military trucks had the slot in the center and would work correctly on our 218 engines. Aero, if in fact the M37 on your box referrs to the military designation, it appears that the pump may have been switched and you got lucky. And we ALL need a little luck when restoring old vehicles! Thanks, Don Quote
aero3113 Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 That's good to know. I guess I got lucky . Quote
