Looks like the upright tubes may have been for one of those over the cab racks used to carry ladders or pieces of pipe. The center piece is possibly for some kind of front mounted hitch or maybe an winch(?). Or the whole thing could have been for a snow plow or some other attachment for farm use. Definitely a home grown deal.

Sounds like neither truck is beyond saving. Lots of potential there for some lucky bidder. Wish I had the space , time and money.
