oldmrham Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) I've pulled the carpet as far as I want w/o damage Looking for the master cylinder fill access. Do I need to pull all the carpet out and remove transmission cover? trying to fill master cylinder before i take in for brakes. anybody know a good place In Tulsa Ok for plymouth brake service. Just trying to get started here only had car two weeks. Just want to take a couple of short drives before brake job. I'm a real newbie to this car. Have a shop manual ordered. Would really like to do a disc brake conversion. Who has the best parts for this? Edited May 30, 2010 by oldmrham Quote
randroid Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 oldmrham, Welcome to the forum. Hopefully I'll be able to help. The master cylinder is located under the driver's side floor almost smack-dab in the middle. There is a plate about 4" in diameter held in place with one machine screw and the cap is right under it. If you tear the carpet so be it because that's the only access, and shame on a PO (Previous Owner - he who is blamed for everything wrong with your car) for gluing the carpet in the first place. Adjusting the front brakes is an art-form almost lost to our world. There's lots of information on how to do it; use the 'Search' button and enter 'front brakes', or something like that, and you'll find a whole bunch of ways to do it. Better yet, go to 'Members List' (at the top of the page) and check-out Olddaddy. You'll see a '.www' next to his name and click on it. That will take you to 'Rusty Hope', his web site, and you'll find the disc brake conversion kit he manufactures. I have never heard anything but good about his kit and I plan on getting one for my '48 P-15. One other thing you'll eventually find is a lack of gasoline containing lead for our older cars, but not to worry because these engines were built with valves that could have used unleaded gas back in the 1930's. -Randy Quote
oldmrham Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Found it, took a few ounces carpet wasn't glued but stuck on the access door bolt. Now on to brakes and need the door sill rubber that holds the carpet at the bottom of the door. On the hunt! Quote
