I noticed the new fuel pump I plan on installing is very stiff. The lever is very hard to move by hand. The one I have installed in the car now I remember I was able to move the lever. Is this normal and the old one is worn?

Just went to check my used ones.

One (non- glass bowl) I can move with moderate pressure.

I glass ones I really have to lean on, so much so that I thought the initial 1/4" was all they would move.

After getting the non-glass one to move I leaned on the other 2. They move, but it does take some serious effort.

Thanks, mine have the glass bowls. I guess the old one is worn and the new one has tight tolerances maybe?

Depending upon where the lobe for the fuel pump on the cam is positioned, it may be difficult to install the new pump.

If it seems really hard to get into place you may have to turn the engine over a bit by hand.

Yea, I was thinking about that. There should be a spot on the lobe that the pump will just slide right in without pushing on the lever right?

I have pulled my old one out to change the gasket and had no problem fighting the lever. With the new one that is not going to happen. I guess I will have to find the correct spot on the lobe. The new one does have the 1/4 inch travel.I plan on installing it tomorrow.I will post how it went.

This is a day late but I would check the folcrum pin and make sure it has not slid out. Some overseas made pumps don't have a tight grip on those pins.

I installed the new pump today and everything went pretty smooth. The cam was in the right spot so I did not have to crank the engine. The 1/4 inch play in the lever helped with the installation.Just waiting for the sealant to cure then I will go for a ride. Thanks for the input norrism1 but the pin was in tight.
