hkestes41 Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Is the profile of the rear window rubber the same as the windshield rubber for a P15 without the chrome/stainless surround? Quote
randroid Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 hkestes41, No. I'm rather laid-up from surgery on my legs last week or I'd send a comparison picture but the bends in the rubber are molded-in to avoid the need for stretching around a corner. That's for Robarts rubber (and anyone else, I hope) but for a quick-fix on a temporary job I'd think that any piece of extruded rubber with the channels being close could be cut to length and used, just don't expect it to last too long or do very well. -Randy Quote
hkestes41 Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 Randy, Hope you have a quick recovery. I know from some old baseball injuries how difficult it can be to get around when you have a flat. I understand that the corners would be different. What I was looking for is the end profile the same. Restoration Specialties shows this profile for the 48 Plymouth Windshield. The Photo is of the Rubber Roberts sells for the Windshield but you can not see the end profile. Roberts has a rear windo listed but does not show a photo. Bernbaum does not show illistrations or photos of either and neither does Steele. Quote
randroid Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 hkestes41, Thanks for the well-wishes, but this isn't my first of these and I should be good to go in a couple days. I'll go out to my storage place tomorrow (the '84 Ford van parked out back and take a closer look. I'm under limited work orders until then but will find the pieces and check for sure. Would photos of the end profiles help? -Randy Quote
hkestes41 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 Randy That would be great, but don't push yourself. Your health is more important that me get the pictures. Quote
randroid Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 hkestes41, I stand corrected! Curves are not molded into the rubber for either the front windows or the rear. To shove my own nose into the dirt a little farther, both seals are identical other than their length. The front window is one piece with a separate rubber piece for between the two panes of glass. The rear window rubber is also one piece and measures 8' 8" (104") but is from the same extrusion die. If you have an extra gasket for the front you can easily make a gasket for the rear from it. Sorry to have mislead you about the molded curves, but I guess that's one of the problems of a project going on for too many years. -Randy Quote
hkestes41 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 Randy, Thanks for the confirmation. I called Restoration Specialties and ordered enough for both the windshield and back window. Your confirmation makes me feel a little better about my order. Quote
