Jim Yergin
Because of the problems I had getting my four wheel disk brakes to work with the original master cylinder in my '41 P12, I decided to purchase the ECI kit to install a dual reservoir master cylinder designed for disk brakes. This weekend I completed the installation and thought I would post pictures. The ECI kit comes with a bell crank assembly that bolts in place of the original master cylinder in front of the pedal assembly. The new master cylinder is then mounted behind and to the left of the pedal assembly. I was pleased with the quality of the ECI products and the support I received over the phone. I discovered two issues the ECI instructions did not address. The first involved the new master cylinder. It is a Corvette master. It turned out it would not fit where it was supposed to because the unused boss on the one side of the casing hit the frame. I called ECI to ask about the problem. It turned out that they were unaware of the problem because they had never supplied a kit for a '41 with four wheel disk brakes. They ordinarily provide a Ford master for either all drums or front disk and rear drums. ECI confirmed that I could grind off the boss to make it fit and that is what I did. The master bolts to a mounting plate that then bolts to the frame using three pre-existing holes. No drilling required. The other issue I discovered when I went to reinstall the clutch pedal. The ECI bell crank blocked where the clutch spring is located. I solved that problem by using an extra long bolt and a stack of washers to raise the location of the retainer where the spring attaches in the front so that the spring would clear the bell crank. I have not yet driven the car because I am waiting for delivery of a remote fill reservoir but after bleeding the system I have a nice firm pedal. Here are some pictures. Joe Flanagan
Wow, Jim, I hope this works out for you. The original system never worked out, huh? This has me wondering of my MC will work. I have disc in the front and the original drums in the rear. Thanks for the offer on the hoist. Hopefully the engine will be going in soon. Normspeed
Jim, are you doing the conversion with the body/floorpans still in place?
Rodney Bullock
Jim, you are something else. Jim is like Doc Brown from " Back to the future" I have basically the same set up however Jim has taken it into outer space. Jim I have a ECI brake system on my 55 chevy however I could not begin to tell you how it's hooked up or what makes it work. I am amazed everrytime I see you break something down. I see your point if it isn't working then something must be done. I am getting ready to get a ECI under the floor booster MC comination for the 53 Chevy Truck. The one question I keep asking these guy's is it a bolt on Iinstallation and I just can't get a straight answer as my truck never had great brakes since grand dad drove it. Keep working it on JIM I know you will get it to work, then you can put the info out there for all of us to understand. Jim Yergin
Jim, are you doing the conversion with the body/floorpans still in place? Norm, I removed the front floor pan and installed it from above. Jim Yergin
