moxieforme2 Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 My B1 manual (last page in book) is clear the crank torque spec for B1-R, B1-T, and B1-V series crankshaft nut, but, doesn't list the crank bearing bolts torque for B1-B, C, D, PW etc. Is it 85 to 90 Ft. lbs, nuts/bots both same (1/2 X 20 thread)? grey beard Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Jim, I have a 1951-52 manual for B3 Dodge Trucks. The engine section begins on page 239 of this book. On that page it lists torque specs for main bearing cap screws at 80 to 85 ft. lbs. Then in the text on page 252, it mentions to torque the vibration damper pulley to 110 ft. lbs. I also have a 1948 B1B manual with torque specs on the last page, like yours. It lists for the B1B, main bearing cap screw torque of 80 to 85, and lower on the page for the larger trucks and engines it shows "crankshaft bearing cap stud nut" torque of 85 to 90 ft. lbs. I guess that'll get you pretty close to the ball park. When I work on engines as old as our 48 to 53 Dodges, I like to torque everything down in three gentle stages, starting out ten pounds below spec, and going all around everything before I increase torque to the next step. My thinking is that the likelihood of the engine components having been apart befire is great, and therefore the likelihood that fasteners have been stretched from their original specs. I usually add a few pounds to the final torque for this reason. When I did my own engine, I torqued the head and main bearings ten pounds over spec, because I had evidence that the engine had been apart at least twice hefore. It couldn't run sweeter today. Quote

I too, as SOP torque in three increments. My manual do not even show the water dist. tube removal??? Shop Manual B1 1/2 through 3 ton and power wagon. Quote
