clifford Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 i am working on a 1951 B3C pickup. i cant get the clutch to disengauge using the pedal. i can do it with large channel locks under the truck turning the arm . the adjustment is as short as it will go. what am i not seeing? i have the cover off so i can see. thankyou, clifford. MBF Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 How much free play do you have at the top of the pedal? You may be adjusted all the way out. Ideally you shouldn't have more than 1-1/5" free play when the pedal is all the way out. Quote
clifford Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 the best i could get is 3 inches + what does that indicate? the truck clutch does not slip when i drive it, i start in gear but it wont disengauge. i think it is close, but their is no adjustment left? Quote
grey beard Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Sounds to me like you're adjusting it backwards. If you have three inches of free play, the clutch won't disengage. You want about one inch of play at the top of the pedal travel. The rest of the pedal stroke is needed to disengage the clutch. If you get this adjustment and it still won't disengage, you have either a throw-out bearing problem or a pressure plate finger issue. Might pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the bellhousing and take a look-see. My bet is that if you get your free play right, she'll disengage. Let us know what you find. Good Luck Quote
