overdrive kickdown swich instullation

I have just about got to the point of my resoration of my 50 ply P20 to install the overdrive. when I tore everything apart, there was no kickdown swich, just a toggle S/W. I would rather have a kickdown. that would be much better.

anybody out there have any idea how to mount the kickdown S/W on the carburetor?

I once saw a picture of a kickdown mounted on a carb. A bracket held

it upside down so the linkage could press the button. They don't seem

to be very plentiful now.

Jim.....is you bracket mounted on the car now???

If so, you might post a picture or two of it.

Possibly an inventive person might make their own if they knew

the layout.

Hi Harvey, this is how it's mounted on a 53 Plymouth. The carb linkage has a slightly different layout for the kickdown switch, with a little tang that pushes up on the kickdown plunger at full throttle. With luck and patience you might find an OD carb on ebay, with or without the switch. The little linkage piece is easily removed and switched to your carb.

Harvey, I got your PM message but can't send a PM reply to your account, it's refusing personal messages.

Anyway I'll take a couple more photos tomorrow showing the bracket from the rear angle as well as the special linkage part on the OD carbs.

Couple of folks asked for better photos of the special linkage piece on the OD carbs. Too close to get behind the carb for a good shot but the little tang is visible in these shots, behind the brass idle mixture screw. It's cut on an angle and it swings up as the accelerator is pushed and at the max it pushes up on the kickdown switch button, visible in the second pic.

The OD part corresponds to the "throttle lever assembly". The non-OD part is in the diagram, p/n 4-431s.
