Warren Nielsen Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 A problem arose this afternoon while installing the driver side door latch assembly into my 52 half ton. One of the springs on the thing decided it had had enough and broke off the end that's crimped into the assembly. Needless to say, it won't work right until it's replaced and also needless to say is the springs in the parts trucks available to me are in even worse shape. This is one of those springs that is about 1/8" wide and maybe 1/16" thick that has maybe 2 coils to it and the outer end comes out about 1 1/2" from the centerline of the coil, which is flat. Does anyone have a spare or 2 that they are willing to part with, or does anyone know of a source (with a part number) for one? Thanks. Warren Nielsen Quote
MBF Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I've seen these at auto related swap meets in the Northeast. I also think that Roberts or Bernbaum's may sell them. I know there was a vendor that had them-just can't remember who. Good luck. Mike Quote
norrism1 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I went to the hardware store and bought a spring that had the right diameter gauge, diameter width, ext and then clipped to length. Worked fine. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I looked the internet high and low for a replacement and never found a source. I did not try Roberts or Bernbaum because they were not listed in there product lists. Didn't think to just call and ask. If one could find a source they would be very popular because those springs seem to be a weak part of the door mechanism. I ended up buying complete door latches to get the springs but my old latches were worn in other spots too, so it wasn't like I was getting them for just the springs. I still have the original latches, so if you do find a source, I'd be interested just so I could repair them. Good Luck, Dave Quote
