Help on a 237ci long block...

I am looking for a gasket kit. I called Vintage and they want to know about the rear main seal. My block is a 53 Canadian model. Is there any way to know which type of rear main seal it came with?

According to my Canadian parts book it should take the "two piece bonded seal type",

This is the specific listing word for word: (Canadian part #'s)

Bearing cap oil seal, retainer and gaskets

Package - 2 piece retainer, bonded seal type - # 891458 (one)

Gasket, Cap, Right...use with bonded seal - # 863012 (one)

Gasket, Cap, Left...use with bonded seal - # 863013 (one)

The above are listed to fit P17, P18, D29, D30, D31, D32, S13 and C45 cars, so it seems that it will fit all the Canadian displacements of the long block.

This book lists US built engines as taking the "wick type" part# 642976
