steering column

Could anyone tell me if the steering column comes off of the steering box? I removed the bolt and nut from the clamp at the bottom of the column but I dont want to force it off if it does not come off. And if it does is there a tool for this? Thanks.. Bob

Hi-If you've got the steering wheel off the shaft the outer shaft housing will come off by sliding up the shaft. I can't remember how I disassembled mine years ago, but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't much of a problem removing the inner hollow shaft from the box. It should be somewhat self explanatory when you get the outer shaft off. I'm thinking there is a nut that retains the steering shaft bearing but I think the sector shaft has to be removed first to let the worm geared shaft come out of the housing. Mike
