We recently put another piece of iron back on the road with our 47 dodge 2 ton. We’re having difficulty getting the two speed rear end to engage. 1. How/when should we be operating the shifter when attempting to engage the rear end gears? All 5 speeds including reverse sync up perfectly when double clutching, but when lifting the knob that connects to the vacuum line on the passenger side firewall all we hear is the Excelerator increase but gears are not engaging. 2. The small Old vacuum line that connected to the speedometer diaphragm is not connected = May be losing back in there. A. Will the vacuum system still work if we plug that line in order to properly connected to a new speedometer in the future? OR does that line need to be properly connected to the diaphragm on the back of the speedometer in order for the rest of the system to work properly and engage the rear gears?

My 51 B3B has shifting issues... hard to get into low, sometimes, without going, first, to other gears. I'm thinking sloppy, worn linkages but my mechanic pal thinks clutch and/or trans. Also, I must double clutch between first and second and sometimes to third. What are your thoughts/experience? TIA Paul

Hi all, I have a 1949 P-18 - with STD 3 speed. I bought the car last year and have never been able to shift into 3rd at speed. It seems to shift smoothly into all gears with engine off. While at speed I can not shift it into 3rd - grinds. Then I can not shift back into 2nd - grinds - until I have slowed down quite a bit. What is the most likely problem and fix? I would appeciate any assistance. The tranny is out of the car at this time. I have an old Plymouth service manual but it is not very specific for troubleshooting. Sorry, if this has been covered here in the past, but I searched and couldn't find appropriate info.
