  1. From the album: 1953 Plymouth Cambridge (P24-1) ("Arielle")

The engine in my 1953 Plymouth Cambridge (known to me as "Arielle") caught a snag somewhere inside it's internal moving parts and no longer rotates. The accepted term is "locked up." I thought long and hard about my options and they were everything from tearing the engine down right where it sits to giving up on Arielle; Sell her and buy something else with quicker promise. Then I sat in the front seat again and considered all the many little things I've bought for her, for that moment when she would have been road-ready. On the first day of ownership I told her we'd be on the road again one day so I'm going to sick with that. Behold, the new soul of Arielle. This engine rotates easy. The old engine is a flat-head six cylinder, 217 cubic inch displacement. This one is also made by the Chrysler corporation. It has the word "Spitfire" on the top. It is also a flat-head six cylinder but it has 250 cubic inches of displacement. It came out of a 1947 WC Dodge Army truck. We're hoping it'll bolt right in. I'll first get it started right where it sits on the engine stand. Should be fun. Long live the Cambridge!
