  1. Thanks for the info guys. I found a guy that still had one in stock that were remanufactured . So I ordered one. My starter doesn't have any tags on it. mine was a 9 tooth. My model A starter drive looks just like it but it turns the opposite direction . Thanks again for the help.
  2. well I took the starter drive apart and found that the ratchet gear was wore down enough that the spring loaded pin dropped into a shallow indention that stopped it from returning to the bottom of the shaft. Now I'll try to find a new one on line. It looks like the 56-60 S Dr. Not for sure if they're the same. Does any know?
  3. Hi everyone ,I'm roundman I just joined recently Because I bought a 1955 dodge custom royal and I'm having a little trouble with the starter. When you start the engine it fires right up, but when you release the key it makes the grinding noise that it makes when the fly wheel and starter drive collide. I took the starter out to check it out and it looks like a pretty fresh rebuild. I did notice that the starter drive looks too long. It doesn't retract back but maybe 3/8" it doesn't go all the way back in.I was wondering could this be the wrong starter drive . My car has the 2 speed automatic transmission. The solenoid is mounted on the fender next to battery. The length of the S.D.is about 5" long. The only number I found on the starter is PS291. Any help is grateful.
