  1. I have searched for a long time to find a bed tail panel just below the tail gate for my 1950 dodge. If someone here a a spare one or one from a project truck that I could borrow or buy for a templet I could reproduce them in my sheet metal shop and have them available for any body that needs one. I could even use a rusted one as long as most of the shape is their. If someone sends me their tail panel I will send your original one I borrowed back along with a new one.
  2. I not sure i I missed your post, may be a little late now. But I did get a tank from Tanks inc. and installed it in my 1950. That have it listed for the earlier trucks I think 39 to 47. The quality was very good and tank went in without a problem had to make a small flat plate and drill holes to extend fuel tank bracket an inch or two. They also have sending units with easy instructions and work great.
  3. Thanks again guys!!!! It was the bearing at the top uo the column. The bearing was dryed out and rusty. Cleaned and greased it and now it steers perfect. If any one attempts this, I was able to remove column with out unbolting the steering box. I just popped of the steering wheel took bolt off the bottom of column and slid it up. It does come verry close to the roof. I don't have a head liner but if you do I think you would have to at least loosen box up.
  4. Thanks very much guys for your input. I will tear in to it tomorrow and I will up date you with what I find.
  5. Can any one tell me if their is bushings or bearings in the steering column. The past two days of driving around my steering is getting sticky and I can hear creaking in the column. It does not feel like its the steering box. It feels and sounds like the problem is between the column and shaft. And if so can I simply remove the steering wheel and the bolt at the bottom of the column and slide the column off the shaft?
  6. I'm in Raymond NH right next to newengland drag way. Hit me up if your ever over this way we can have a beer. The oil fitting I was referring to was at the gauge not the engine. B1B Keven here on the forum is hooking me up with some gauges and oil line fitting he even sent me the link on ebay for the 12v to 6v resistor I need for the fuel gauge. I will update with photos of the new gauges, fitting, resistor. As soon a I get them!
  7. . Hi Chris, it's nice to see another 4bt fan, and we are not far from each other! I am using the th400 auto that was origanal behind my 4bt. I drove it up and down the street today for the first time with the nose off. Holy $#&T it's got power, but it still has the origanal rear end with 4.10 gear think I'm going to need something like 3.07 gear to get hi way speed. Probably a jeep cherokee rear end. I am keeping her with the manual steering and drum brakes. My intention is to make my truck look like it was born with a cummins.
  8. Thanks for all the replyes!!! To answer some of your questions the cummins 3.9 4bt fit right in with no major modifications except for fabbing some motor mounts and a crossmember. The truck had no engine or trans when I got it, but I think the cummins is close to size and wait of the origanal motor. Still siting on its origanal suspension and steering it did not squat. The only thing different is I went with a firewall mounted duel master cylinder because my pedals and master were missing. Still not sure on the oil preasure line if someone wants to chime in.
  9. Sorry cant figure out how to rotate pics. I don't have factory gauges yet looking at a set on ebay. I forgot to ask about the oil preasure gauge will an after market line kit hook to the back like the type of line you get with a modern after market gauge?
  10. Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just picked up a 1950 1/2 ton and in the process of installing a cummins 4bt Have some questions on 12 volt. I am going to keep my original gauges can I hook 12v to them or do I need some sort of resistor for fuel gauge amp meter?
