  1. Good news everyone,I found a 1968 Dodge Coronet for parts. It has a 8.75 Mopar rear end gear ratio is 3.73 (good for these mts). It has the brakes and parking brake cable. He wants $175 The the spring perches are 44" apart just like mine.I'm gonna go get it. I'm also gonna need to upgrade the brake master cylinder.
  2. I'm trying to pull the axle shaft out and it doesn't want to come out.I'll try using Young Ed's PVC spacer method tomorrow.I really like HanksB3B's axle puller.I think I have some pvc laying around here somewhere. After I get the axle out I hope to find a replacement. I think it's pretty neat how you can swap out the gear assembly on these 8.75 mopar rearends
  3. I did some research and found out I have a Mopar 8 3/4" rearend.Cast into the driver side of the case is the number 1820657 (1957-1964) identify the smaller 1 3/8th-inch-diameter, 10-spline pinion shaft, and are often called the "741" case. Now to find a replacement axle. My first classic truck was a 53 GMC, I worked on it alot and didn't hardly drive it. This truck I want to drive it more than I work on it.
  4. I found a 1993 S10 2.8 with a T-5. Do you think it will work and can I use my clutch? Hey 4mula-dlx I checked out the adapter kit and it looks like a spacer that goes on the input shaft,is that the right kit? I'm thinking of doing the tranny and rear end swap together so I will be ready to roll! My New Year resolution is to drive the tires off this old truck!
  5. I'm waiting on the forum support to send me directions on how to unanswer this thread.I may have accidentally tagged it answered.
  6. Thanks for looking it up Plymouthy Adams.I'll probably open it up and get to countin. Will I have to pull the axles first before I can remove the cover?
  7. I got it out! There was a key keeping the wheel and axle together. It was ground up into metal shavings. On the side of the diff case it has 1820657 there is a tag that has 363 on it. I'm guessing the 363 is the gear ratio.I was told this rearend came out of 61 Plymouth. I'm thinking of either replacing the axle if I can find one. Or find a replacement rear that is the same size.I don't want to change my driveshaft. Does any one know what the numbers on this differential case meen?
  8. I'll be pulling the rear end tomorrow. It's suppose to be a 61 Plymouth rear in my 51 b3b. It looks alot like the one in Hanksb3b pictures. By the way Hank is it easy to swap out the pumpkins.I mean do you have to know what your doing?or can I simply unbolt and swap pumpkins. When I was driving up my steep driveway the rear stopped working, the shaft turns but the wheels don't. Does anyone have an idea of what may have broke?. Ed
  9. I like the idea of a 5 speed, because it would get the most out of the 218 motor. First I want to get her running.I've had it 3 months and drove it not even 1 mile (a fun mile though). So step one is find a rearend with the gears that go well with the T-5 swap. Drive it awhile till I get the parts for the big tranny swap. 4mula-dlx can you tell me what gear ratio you have in the yj rearend? I really like my Pilothouse. It'll be alot of fun. Ed
  10. Thanks rolnthunder for the info on the Ford 8.8 those width measurements and the year, models to go with it is exactly what I need to find a replacement .So what is the T5 swap?
  11. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.I bought this truck this past September.I was told it has a 61 Plymouth rear, geared for the highway.I never got to try it. These mountains here must have put a big strain on it.Anyway first I will open up the pumpkin and see whats going on. I like the idea of swapping out the diff assembly like Merle did. It may be easier to find a jeep whole rear end though. Thanks again now I know what to look for. Ed
  12. I have a 51 b3b it has the 218 flathead with 3 on the tree. My differential went out.I want to put in a replacement rearend that is geared for a 65mph highway speed.Could ya'll give me some suggestions on a good choice for my truck. If I knew what vehicles have the rearend I need that would be very helpfull.
  13. Did you ever get an answer to your question? I want to change my column shifter to a floor shift. I think it will be easier to shift.
  14. I found this mirror arm and hinge bracket at Vintage Power Wagon.I like this mirror.Has anyone bought these and tried them?
