My 51 B-3-J Dump Truck starts to spit and sputter after a couple miles driving. Pull over/open the hood and the clear see-thru fuel filter looks like the gas is boiling. I installed a heat shield and wrapped the fuel line with insulation, but it does not make a difference. I had the carb. re-built and it starts easier, but that does not cure the problem either. Any suggestions where to start. Hesitant about trying to take it anywhere, for fer it will catch fire or quit on me. Thanks in advance for responses.

Thanks again for the responses, I sorta thought tanks would be the same as pick-ups.

Thanks, Brent B3B for the response. It's possible it is a 2 1/2 ton. I believe years ago cabs/ID tags were changed.

Any suggestions for a replacement gas tank for my 1951 Dodge B3J 1 1/2 ton dump truck? Since the cab is the same for the pick-up does that mean the tanks are the same? Thanks in advance for the info.

Suggestions for where top purchase a replacement fuel tank for my B3J 2 1/2 ton dump truck. Are they the same as for a pick-up like the cabs are? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to check that timing issue. The points & condenser have been replaced with Pertronix & it has been converted to 12 volt. I will check wiring to distributor as well. Thanks again.

Have done that & ruled it out. I have good supply of fuel to the bowl. I rebuilt the carb as well. Thought that might be the issue. No such luck. I have had this problem the whole 25 years I have owned it & have just put up with it. Tired of settling. Want to be able to go get a load of dirt or gravel & not worry about making it back to the shop or not. I did the nasty & converted it to 12 volts, but it starts a heck of a lot easier.

I'm pretty sure it is a 251 or 265 cu. in. (#T318-8488) (B3J) & it does this at normal operating temp, 180 Degrees. Do not know what timing is supposed to be set @. Can someone help me out there? I did buy a replacement fuel cap from DCM, but it does it no matter which cap I use.

Finally got everything, I thought, with my 1951 Dodge Dump fixed & decided to make a couple trips to the rock quarry. No issues, made (2) trips. After that, I took an hour break. Decided to make (1) more trip. On the way back it started to miss. I had to let off the gas, coast awhile amd them resume. Could not give it full throttle w/o it bucking & chucking. I just installed a SS heat shield, hoping that would do the trick, but not the case. could this be a timing issue? I recently converted to 12 volts & installed Pertronix kit. I have had the mising issue in the past, before converting to 12 volts.

Was the glass back then tinted green? Vendor is asking if I want green or clear glass.

I have a 1951 Dodge B-3 Series 2 1/2 ton dump truck that need's glass replaced in all areas. (Windshield/side windows/rear window) no vents. Is the glass the same as for 1/2 pick-up or is it larger? Looks to be the same to me, but do not want to order the wrong glass. Vendor has not responded to me yet, thought some of you old-timers like myself would know. Thanks in advance for the response.

I am new to this forum, but pretty savvy when it comes to mechanical terms and repairs. My question is what does the gentleman mean by point bounce @ high rpm's? My 51 dodge dump 1&1/2 ton starts missing after it has been run for awhile & it usually is @ higher speeds. If I let off the gas it will quit, but when I accelerate again it starts missing & jumping. Any ideas & thanks in advance.
