I love to take a sad project and resurrect or restore it. Recent projects completed are 1975 Honda 90 Trail Bike and 1985 Suzuki 600. Still working on the Honda Mini-Trail 70, 1987 Suzuki Quad 50 and of course the 1946 Dodge Deluxe with 62,000 original miles
  • My Project Cars
I have Grandpa's 1947 Black Dodge Deluxe with 62,000 original miles. It has never spent a night outside was bought originally used from two old maid sisters in St. Louis Mo.

  1. THANKS TO ALL! A wealth of information. Grandpa (I'm one now it seems...) would be proud! Jim
  2. Thanks!
  3. Driving about once every 3 years and steering is just way too sloppy. Thinking i need to do steering linkage... still has ORIGINAL parts. OR, will adjusting the steering box be enough? I can not find any topics on steering linkage here or on YouTube. Where best to go for help on this?? Thanks folks!!
  4. OK. Now I'm to the rear and end and see that I need to remove the little plug and put in a grease fitting to lube the rear wheel bearings. It is larger dia screw thread than the other fittings on car. Where get this special grease fitting? I've got dry bearings! Thanks!
  5. OH! And one more thing, after I get the inspection plug off and if it does need a little "fluid", what fluid should I use? Just plain old auto transmission fluid or does it need to be something Mopar Special??
  6. Thanks to all for this good info. I'm going to stuff a rag down there... and be very careful. I don't have as many torque wrenches as my wife has shoes (!), but I do have 2 inch-pounders and 3 ft-pounders (1 is broken at moment)... My shop is coming along as being fairly complete... I am cautious with a new project like this as parts are hard to come by and it would take several more weeks to make the part on Dad's Lathe..... My screwdriver sets are in 3 different tool boxes. One for the clocks, one for my motorcycles and of course one for the cars... Hopefully I qualify! Thanks to all again!
  7. Thanks guys, AGAIN, for all the helpful info. I do have the vintage shop manual. It is just as brief then as the new ones written now. I just figured if it is original fluid, that maybe it needed changing. I'll check the level though. If it is dirty looking (check by putting my finger in it?), I'll change. What type fluid is it? Typical Auto Transmission Fluid? I got Grandpa's 47 Dodge Deluxe in 1995. He got it from his Dad back in 50. Grandpa didn't do much servicing of it (did change the oil and I started helping with that in 85), but it didn't get driven much since I came in the picture (I'm the son-in-law). Car only has 62K. Car has sat a lot. I'm going through all major systems just to check and ensure not needing attention. Thanks for all your input!
  8. Thanks Again! NOW, I have more questions. What are the two little screens on the back of the fluid drive bell housing? What can I use if I don't have a magnetic socket to remove the fluid drive tank inside the bell housing? ALSO, how does one drain the fluid drive fluid (it has been in there for probably 40 years)?? Thanks Guys. You are life-savers! We'll get her running again!
  9. Thanks Guys! I got them off! Now, as my new Master Cylinder has not yet arrived I'm now wondering if I'll need to press off the brake/clutch pedals shaft from the old cylinder to re-press it on the new one!? Appreciate your input!
  10. Hello! First post here. Owner of a 47 Dodge Deluxe. Am replacing the master cylinder with a new one. Have to remove the brake and clutch pedals off the shaft of the master cylinder. How remove these clips? They look like they were crimped on and not a spring clip with little holes to spring-em open. Do I just destroy them off and replace with new (where get new)? Thanks!
