  1. Hallelujah! It's starting much better now after a drive, and waiting 30 min. before trying to start again. I had to raise the float level and straighten out the adjustment tab, it was set to low and may have been binding a little. So far it's fireing up within 10 sec. Hope this continues thanks everyone for the advice.
  2. Well here's the latest, I went through everything in the ignition new plugs, wiring connections, timming, etc. Then after taking it out driving and reaching full 180+ engine temp. I turned the engine off and it would start right up again, but if I let it sit a half hour or so while still warm it still doesn't want to start. I then have to give it several 10+ second long attempts cranking the starter over while holding the gas pedal to the floor while the engine struggles to fire up and start but eventually does then runs just fine.
  3. I'm going thru the whole ignition system again, put in a new set of Autolite Plugs and maybe see if I need to replace the coil or the wires going to it. Let you all know in a couple of days how it went.
  4. I have to hold my foot on the gas pedal and hold it to the floor to start the engine there doesn't seem to be any flooding, there's no smell of gas or sign of any running down the carburetor. Sometimes after I first start it up and let it warm up I can restart by not even touching the gas and just hitting the starter botton, I assume this means the ignition system and timing are set and working properly.

  6. I guess I'm just hoping its not the low compression that's the problem I really don't want to even think about having to pull the engine out & getting it rebuilt again.
  7. The engine in my DeSoto has low compression too about 55 to 70 and has a lot of blow-by the valves are good so I'm sure it's the rings but it does eventually start and runs good but then takes forever trying to start again after it had been running . With a fully charged battery it will start up eventually after 3 or 4 long crankings but I'm sure this is hard on the starter and drains down the battery. And sometimes it will restart on the first try, holding the starter for 15 seconds or more. Hope one of us can find a solution.
  8. I've got the same problem very similar compression readings don't know what the heck it could be can't wait to see what you find out should help me too.
