Thinking about swapping in a 3.9v6 in my 50 Meadowbrook
flint52 replied to flint52's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Thanks for all the replies, i really appreciate it. To answer a few questions. Am i dead set on the 3.9 - no, i am just trying to find an economical powerplant for the 50 and cant see spending a few grand on the old flathead What is the purpose of the car - just a fair weather cruiser to drive around when its nice, have a big block dart if i want to go fast Frame Swap? Probably not as i just want a decent cruiser, i've rebuilt the front suspension, added disc brakes and a dual master for safety all before the flathead went all in all just want to get the 50 back up and running as its been a few years. DJ thanks for the quick reply, with the wiring i was thinking about just using it as is as its a fairly basic truck (no power windows/doors/etc) especially since i have the whole truck. I haven't checked with Butches but honestly if they dont i feel pretty comfortable making my own. the electrical on the other hand i'll have to take some extra time on before modifying anything. -
Hello, i have a 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook with the 230 and fluid drive transmission. The body and interior are in great shape. The engine/transmission are not. I've been looking for a rebuilt flathead for some time and have not been successful and i dont believe it makes financial sense to rebuild the 230 flathead. I can pick up a 2wd 99 dakota with the 3.9 and automatic transmission for relatively cheap and the running gear is in great shape. Just transfer the engine/transmission over with the wiring harness. I see butches has mounts for the mopar SB's which should be the same for the 3.9. Not interested in massaging a V8 in there. Just looking for a good cruiser, am I over simplifying this or completely missing anything? Thanks Ryan

so i used a pipe and the lever was able to do gown 1/2" and get suction on the inlet. so is it an issue with my line? what else can it be?
-
how much force is needed to move the pump lever? it requires quite a bit of force to even budge it.
-
didnt think to do that (only one person) so bolt the pump back on and have someone start the car while im under and see if there is suction on the inlet?
-
Thanks for the replies yes i am getting fuel through the lines (i did back flush the line) so that's not the issue i think. its just not going any further than that.

Hello, i have a 50 dodge meadowbrook. I replaced the fuel tank last weekend (prior one was leaking) and now i am trying to start my car and it wont. Poured gas down the carb and it would run until that was gone. Tried a couple times hoping the gas would reach the pump. Ended up pulling the filter and its bone dry. Took out the Fuel pump from my car and it looks nothing like the stock pictures online. Its a Carter 684 with 2 ins and 2 outs. Now 2 years ago it did run and drive. so at one point in time it did work. Is there a rebuild/new similar pump that will work or do i need to purchase something else. Thanks Ryan

Any helpful hints/tricks? first time i've deal with a radio this old and im kinda out of water. Will a newer 6x9 work with this radio once i get it working? Thanks Ryan

Thanks took a second look at my tires and my passenger was pretty bad. adjusted it and drove just fine (at least to the alignment shop) Thanks again Ryan
-
Thanks for the replies. Emergency brake was off. first thing i though of, When it was on jack stands i did start it and go through the gears everything sounded and felt fine. I'll look at the alignment of the front wheels and see if it looks odd. Ryan

Hello, finally finished my brakes & suspension rebuild on my 50 meadowbrook with a fluiddrive, so i go and try to drive it around the block and it seemed to take alot more gas than it should to move it. After i circled around back to my house i see tire marks where i was going. Why is this? I put it back on jack stands and all the tires freekly move. Any ideas? Thanks Ryan

Hello, well now that i have the king pin situation finished and front end installed, i noticed the carb is leaking at one of the gaskets, is this the correct rebuild kit? http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=CRB25106_0186034890 Seems to be the only kit i can find, everything else is for a carter. thanks Ryan
-
Yep thats what i did, only had one in stock, waiting until 430 hopefully should have the stock by then
-
Thanks i saw those, but didnt showup when i selected the 50. think i'll go down and see what the cap size is
-
I found one of my originals and they are 1" but i drilled the two top ones out when i went to remove the king pins. Called Autozone, napa, and schucks all no longer show any king pins for a 50 meadowbrook
-
well the small one is 7/8"and the large one is 1 1/8" so im guessing its a 1" cap? I've sent an email as thats all available right now to Robert Motor parts just dont have alot of faith in it right now other then just getting a random set shipped.
-
Well 4th time i finally got the correct king pin, (caps have been to small all along, never had a reason to even try those out.) now the "larger caps" are to big. getting ridiculous, anyone know where i could get a set of caps locally for a 50 dodge meadowbrook? apparently there is at least three different sizes
-
Hi Andy, i honestly have no idea what the incorrect pins are for, whats even odder is the latest set one correct and one that was the same as the previous sets.... Hopefully i can get this figured out tomorrow. getting annoyed
-
Alshere, thanks for the reply Robert Motors contacted me shortly after i posted this thread and said he has the correct one and the correct set is being shipped Monday (today) hopefully the 3rd time is the charm. if not i will be contacting you as this is the one thing holding me up. Thanks Ryan
-
thanks, forgot to mention its on a 50 meadowbrook. I though about getting the notch done on the new set, but was trying to figure out if theres a different set or something else im not thinking of. Dont even want to mention how long it took me to figure out the notches were different
-
Hello, i purchased a set of king pins from Robert Motor Parts and the notch is 1 1/4 lower than my other set. I called and they stated there is only one set of king pins, and they sent another set just to make sure i didnt get the wrong set. well same as the first set. any ideas? kinda stumped right now. my kingpin is on the bottom and the new on is on the top. Any help would be great. Thanks Ryan

Anyone Use Rustyhope's Disc Conversion With An Eci Master?

well it looks like ECI may not be a good option. Is there another kit out there for a dual master?
