  1. Hello, I have a 53 Dodge Coronet, 241 Hemi, 3 spd manual. Does anyone have any specs on the trans and rear axle? What they're called, gear ratios, ect.? Thanks

  3. Cool. Thanks for the info Lumpy. Looks like what I found, mines around 7.4:1 factory. As you mentioned 8:1 may be a good range for reliability without getting into a radical race engine. Looks like that's the max the factory went.
  4. Thanks for the quick response and all the good info! Found an old Tattersfield ad, see attached. Reads it's an 8:1 compression head. Hopefully I don't need to mill off any or if I do I can get by with not too much if any since the compression's so high already. Remind me what the stock compression ratio is for a '55 Dodge 230 Flathead? Like you guys mentioned I'll look into the cooling passage leak tests and if I'll need longer plugs. Thanks again guys for sharing all your great knowledge!
  5. Hello All, I recently picked up a Tattersfield Aluminum head for a Flathead 230. Haven't CC'd the head yet, but was wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head (no pun intended ) the combustion chamber size or the compression ratio it would produce for a '55 230 flathead with out milling any off. It has a few very minor dings on the head surface that may cause me to mill a little off anyway. Attached is picture of head. I can get casting # of head later if that helps. Thanks for the help guys!
  6. Hey Guys, I'm rebuilding a couple E7T2 carbs for a dual carb setup, but was missing a few internal parts on one of them. I can't seem to find parts for these carbs anywhere so I thought I'd just try to get another carb for parts. It's hard to find an E7T2 carb for parts and was wondering if anyone knew if the internals (jet, float, ect.) are the same for an E7T2 carb as they are for a D6H1 or D6G1 carb? Or does anyone have an E7T2 carb they wouldn't mind parting with just for parts? Thanks!
  7. Hey Guys, I've got a BBS carb off of a '55 Dodge 1/2 ton and was looking at trying to find a matching carb to use as a dual carb setup. I've read on some other posts here that some of you guys were having problems with running rich? I thought these carbs seem to be good for a dual carb setup as it seems to have a slightly larger bore than the BB carb. One problem I have is trying to find a matching BBS carb. For one, this carb doesn't have and id #'s on it anywhere? Any input of running dual BBS carbs instead of the BB's? Pros/Cons? Here is a pic of the current BBS carb I've got.
  8. That's what I was kind of thinking on the higher gear ratio. It seems like since these motors are pretty torquey and lower RPM'd, that a higher gear ratio would be perfect for it for good acceleration plus higher cruising speeds. Of course depending on the weight of the vehicle. I was thinking around the 3.21:1 range as a good medium.
  9. "What gear ratio do these differentials have? Anything less than a 3.55/1 will not work well with a flathead 6." Sorry, I'm new to the flathead 6's. I thought I read somewhere you wanted a higher gear ratio for these flathead 6's for lower RPM cruising? Does it just accelerate like a dog on anything lower numerically than 3.55:1? Wouldn't it give you a much higher top end speed also?
  10. Hey guys, I picked up a 230 Flathead with a 3 speed manual out of a 55 Dodge 1/2 ton truck yesterday for a project I've got. I know you guys are pretty knowledgeable on this stuff, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some info about the old 3 speed transmissions, or links to where I can read up on it? I'm fairly new to the old 3 speeds and don't know much about them? What are they called? Are they an R10 transmission? I thought I saw that posted somewhere. Thanks!
